Notes: This cartoon-like fish has an interesting personality and will spend most of its time in or around its burrow. It requires at least 2½ inches of mixed substrate in which it will construct its burrow. They may be kept singly, in pairs, or in small groups, and will spawn in captivity. The male will hold the eggs and fry in his mouth until they are free swimming. Make sure to cover the tank because Jawfish are prone to jumping from open aquariums, especially when first introduced.
Jawfish make great reef inhabitants and should be kept with docile tank-mates.
Offer a varied diet of carnivore preparations, vitamin-enriched brine shrimp, mysid shrimp, and finely chopped seafood.
