Notes: The Bluespotted Jawfish is not commonly available to hobbyists because it often resides at depths of over 100 feet. Remarkably, they often acclimate to aquarium life quite well if introduced to a reef aquarium. This cartoon-like beauty has an interesting personality and will spend most of its time in or around its burrow. It requires at least 2½ inches of mixed substrate in which it will construct its burrow. They may be kept singly, or in pairs, and will spawn in captivity. The male will hold the eggs and fry in his mouth until they are free swimming. Make sure to cover the tank because Jawfish are prone to jumping from open aquariums, especially when first introduced.
Jawfish make great reef inhabitants and should be kept with docile tank-mates.
Offer a varied diet of carnivore preparations, vitamin-enriched brine shrimp, mysid shrimp, and finely chopped seafood.
