Notes: The reddish and white juvenile often called the Red Coris morphs into a brilliant adult known as the Yellowtail Coris with bright blue speckles and a yellow tail.
Do not attempt to keep this fish unless you have a fine sand substrate in which it can bury itself while it sleeps.
Juveniles can usually be kept in reef aquariums without incident, but as they mature will pose a threat to snails, crabs, shrimp, and smaller clams. This fish will help to control pyramidellid snails which can kill tridacnid clams. Neither juveniles or adults will bother living corals. Juveniles are not aggressive and can be kept with a wide variety of smaller fishes. Adults should be housed with other semi-aggressive fishes as they may pick on smaller reef fishes.
Feed a mixed diet of meaty foods including shrimp, squid, krill, fish and frozen carnivore preparations.
Although Vivid Aquariums guarantees that all aquatic life will arrive alive and healthy we cannot guarantee the Yellowtail Coris after arrival due to the high level of care this species requires. We recommend that only experienced hobbyists or public aquariums purchase this species.
