Why is Magnesium required?
Magnesium is present in NSW (Natural Sea Water) in a fairly high concentration (1350 – 1500 mg/L). Magnesium is an essential part of chlorophyll, which is necessary for photosynthesis. Without photosynthesis algae and hence the corals, which we have in our aquariums, would not survive. Magnesium also has another important function in that it allows maintaining the correct combination of calcium concentration and alkalinity or carbonate harness possible. Maintaining a correct magnesium concentration is therefore very important and is indirectly responsible for fast coral and calcareous algae growth.
Magnesium is depleted by algae growth and also by the use of excessive Kalkwasser or by going far beyond natural calcium, alkalinity and pH values.
About Liquid Magnesium
This supplement is highly concentrated. Each liter contains approximately 25,000 mg of magnesium. To avoid an ionic imbalance, we properly balance the magnesium with ions such as sulfate, chloride, bromide, sodium and calcium.
All ingredients are of a pharmaceutical quality or even better. This ensures that no unwanted elements are added to your valuable aquarium.
Other Requirements
This supplement is designed to be used as part of a regular maintenance routine. If the magnesium concentration is significantly lower than 1350 mg/L, use Salifert Magnesium Powder. This powder is far more effective in raising the magnesium concentration yet is not ionically balanced to the extent of this supplement. The powder should there for be used as a one time major corrective measure.
Directions:
Shake before use.
Regular maintenance:
Dose 5 ml per 100 liters (25 gallons) once a week.
Adjust dosage according to individual requirements (use a magnesium test, e.g., Salifert’s Magnesium Profi-Test).
Ever 5 ml per 10 liters (2.5 gallons) will increase the magnesium concentration by approximately 12.5 mg/L(12.5ppm).
Never increase the magnesium concentration by more than 50 mg/L aday. Maintain a magnesium concentration of 1350 – 1500 mg/L.
