Notes: Australian Pink Hammer Corals are one of the rarest Hammer Corals available to hobbyists. The Hammer Coral gets its name from its unique tentacles, which look like groups of hammers waving around. This unique and attractive LPS coral is great for beginners. It requires moderate water currents and moderate reef lighting for proper health. Use of a wavemaker to create changing currents will cause this coral to wave back and forth beautifully. It is important that adequate calcium and alkalinity levels are maintained to ensure proper skeletal growth. Use of Kalkwasser Mix or a calcium reactor will be of great benefit.
Place the Australian Gold Hammer Coral on an exposed rock along the bottom two-thirds of the aquarium where currents will be able to supply it with necessary nutrients and trace elements. It expands to twice its normal size during the evenings, and its long sweeper tentacles can sting nearby corals. Leave 4"-5" between it and other corals. Be careful to place it so that only the skeleton comes in contact with the live rock.
Supplementing its diet with the addition of trace elements, marine snow, phytoplankton, and food for filter feeders will help to insure its continued good health.
CAUTION: Hammer corals emit a toxin that can cause allergic reactions in humans. Do yourself a favor and use gloves, such as Aqua Gloves, when handling this beautiful coral.
