Lachelle from
Joplin, Missouri
size of tank:
46 gallon bow front
inhabitants:
starter tank at six months-live
sand, snails, hermit crabs, 1 goby,
sand sifting sea star, serpant star,
and live rock.
system: protein skimmer,
emperor 330 without charcoal,
heater, live rock and live sand as
filters, marineland power head for
current
lighting: compact flourescent
for now.
live rock: 25 pounds fiji and
tonga, but need more for adequate
filtration
tips: The bigger the tank,
the better. It can get expensive,
but will pay off later when you
start adding fish. Mine will
be limited to small fish, or one
large fish. Let the tank cycle
naturally. Mine is 6 months
old, and still not ready.
Adding chemicals speed up the
nitrogen cycle can do more damage
than good for the beginner. Water
evaporates; Salt doesnt. Add
water as needed but not salt, to
ensure optimal specific gravity
levels. Use a water
conditioner even when adding small
amounts of water to remove chemicals
from your tap water. Maintain the
same temperature at all times.
Before adding fish or inverts, check
for lighting requirements, and
compatibility charts first.
