DIY (Do it Yourself) MH Ballasts & Reflectors

Step 1:
Choose a Reflector

LumenMax ELITE Mogul Base SINGLE ENDED Reflector

LumenMax ELITE DOUBLE ENDED Reflector

A reflector is the reflective metal housing that directs light from the bulb into the aquarium. The advantage is that you get more light and intensity out of your bulb for optimal coral health and growth.

Step 2:
Choose a Ballast

150W-175W-250W-HQI
Galaxy Select-A-Watt Electronic Ballast

250W-HQI-400W-Turbo Charged
Galaxy Select-A-Watt Electronic Ballast

400W-1000W-Turbo Charged
Galaxy Select-A-Watt Electronic Ballast

A ballast converts energy from your outlet to the right amount of energy needed to the power your bulb.

Step 3:
Choose a Bulb

175 Watt MH Bulbs

250 Watt MH Bulbs

400 Watt MH Bulbs

Wattage measures the amount of electricity in a bulb. The higher the wattage, the brighter the bulb. Kelvin rating measures the color and intensity of the bulb. The higher the K, the more blue the light. The lower the K, the more yellow. 10K is white light. 14K is bluer. And 20K is bluest. 10K (white light) is best for fastest coral growth but not color. 20K (blue light) is best for color but not for growth. We recommend 14K for coral growth and color.
